HENRY HILLS received awards this past summer (2012) for Best Experimental Film at both the Curtas Vila do Conde festival in Portugal and at the Melbourne International Film Festival for his film "Arcana". His work, which is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art and many other collections, has also screened over the last several years at the New York, Rotterdam, San Francisco, Leeds, European Media Arts, and Jihlava film festivals. He was a 2009 recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship. His films MONEY and RADIO ADIOS were recently preserved by Anthology Film Archives with funding from the Andy Warhol Foundation, and his films PORTER SPRINGS 3 and KINO DA! have been preserved by the Pacific Film Archive. An MFA graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, Hills has made over 30 experimental films since 1975. His SELECTED FILMS is available on DVD from Tzadik and streaming on PennSound.
In Prague, Hills conceived and has administered a Visiting Filmmaker series (with funding from the Trust for Mutual Understanding) which has brought over 34 of the leading American experimental film artists to present their work. P. Adams Sitney recently wrote: "In the past several years this program has become one of the most important occasions for American independent filmmakers visiting Europe and an enormous asset for the Czech and international students at FAMU. The reports I have heard of this unique program have been universally enthusiastic." Hills also curated 17 programs of avant-garde films at Ponrepo from the collections of the Austria Filmmuseum and Anthology Film Archives though FIAF exchanges with the National Film Archive.
