Michal Bregant

Teacher, film historian, critic and curator. Currently CEO of the National Film Archive.

Michal Bregant graduated from Charles University in Prague. Since 1991, he has worked for the National Film Archive in Prague and as a teacher at FAMU. A film historian, critic, and curator, Michal writes about Czech film history, experimental cinema, film and visual arts (Devětsil; Surrealism in Czechoslovakia; Karel Teige, Orbis Pictus, etc.) He was a contributer, editor and later chief editor of the film journal, Illuminations and has curated special programs of Czech film.
In 1998, he was the recipient of a Fulbright grant to teach at the Dept. of Slavic Languages, University of Texas at Austin, TX.
From 2002-2008, he served as the Dean of FAMU and between 2008 and 2011, as Chair of FAMU International.
Starting in January 2012, he was appointed by the Minister of Culture as Director of the National Film Archive
