Vít Janeček

Director, writer, producer, associate professor at FAMU

Vít Janeček (1970), director, writer and producer, associate professor at FAMU. He graduated from the School of Philosophy of the Charles University in Prague (film studies) and from FAMU (non-fiction). His creative interest consist in considering transversal aspects of reality – science, politics, society and thought. He contributes to various journals and web media. He has curated film programs in 90ies (in Prague’s Roxy, Archa Theater and historical retrospectives at several editions of IFF Charley Vary). At FAMU co-found and first four years directed FAMU Center for Audiovisual Studies. Between 2012 and 2015 he worked as the Head of FAMU International where he transformed or developed curricular frameworks of several programs (Production Team Studies, new tracks of AP Program and re-definition of master CDM or FAMU Summer Initiation Campus). In 2015 he has been appointed a member of Czech commission for UNESCO. Together with his wife, acknowledged Slovak director and producer Zuzana Piussi, he formed D1film production, since 2015 they focus on producing films with socially relevant topics. In previous years he backed as a co/producer some of his own films or full length film The Monk (by The Maw Naing, 2014, CZ/MM), within FAMU Burma Project, which he has led since 2006. He co-operates as a development advisor with Czech TV, as a writer he contributes to various papers and webmedia.
