Jaromír Šofr awarded IMAGO Lifetime achievement Trophy

Jaromír Šofr, professor at Cinematography and International departmets of FAMU, received the IMAGO Lifetime achievement Trophy from the General Secretary of the European Federation of cinematographers, Louis-Philippe Capelle. The prize was given to Mr Šofr during the official meeting of the Czech Association of Cinematographers on Sunday September 23, 2012 in Ostrava as a part of the International Cinematographers Film Festival, Ostrava Kamera Oko. Jaromír Šofr received this honorary award as the first Czech cinematographer ever.

Jaromír Šofr, one of the leading cinematographer of the Czechoslovak New Wave. Known for his many collaborations as the DoP of Jiří Menzel (among others) including the Oscar winning film "Closely Watched Trains" of 1966. He also worked on the films of Věra Chytilová, Jan Němec and Evald Schorm. He is currently finishing a new film by Jiří Menzel “Sukničkáři”.
IMAGO – European Federation of Cinematographers is an international nonprofit organization promoting and supporting cinematographers activities with a respect to their cultural and professional identity. The main aim of the Federation is to maintain high standards, promote the spread and development of cinematography profession and ensure the technical and artistic quality of European cinema.
